For whatever reason we hadn’t heard from a customer in a long time. Could have been budget issues or a change of management, not sure. I went by the customer and noted that they had removed the Red Doorking operator that we had installed. I noticed that is was still onsite and sitting off to the side getting buried in the accumulating banyan leaves. I asked what was up with it. The main thing was that they said I could have it. So, almost five years to the day after installing it I loaded it into my truck and brought it back to the shop. I washed it down and wired it up and it worked.
The red powder coat looks like it was just done. Only thing wrong I believe was that the chain was rusted. This was installed next to Biscayne Bay close to salt air and was supposed to have been lubricated regularly. I can guarantee that this gate operator, as old as it is, is better than most newly manufactured operators on the market.
I just wanted to take a minute to post a thanks to all our customers who have been so patient with us since last September when Hurricane Irma struck. We have a big base throughout South Florida and a good portion of those customers are in the Florida Keys.
Even though it has been six months, we are still working overtime trying to get gate equipment repaired, replaced and re-installed. We hope to restart our preventative maintenance program again very soon. It is the one thing that we have stopped completely for the duration so we can concentrate on getting customers up and running.
It’s difficult to answer someone when they ask about what we do that is different. They also say a picture is worth a thousands words. This a DoorKing 9100 on an elevated concrete slab in a residential community in Coconut Grove. This install just went through hurricane Irma.
This is a ten year old Door King 9100 gate operator. Our customer, The Kampong in the Grove, the location of the former winter home of Dr. David Fairchild, needed an updated but budget priced gate operator. We had just the thing. This location is a great place for a former high traffic gate operator to retire. The 9100 can pull and push the heavy steel gate with no problem. We installed a new main shaft, new bearings, new belt and a surge suppressor. This operator will last a long time. One of the things we wanted to do was give it a new finish. So before overhauling we stripped it down and had it powder coated this cool red color to match the iron work at the Kampong. It’s almost iridescent.
